Several of you have mentioned that you have to get used to the comments box being on the top of a new post here on Gatherings, the Second Edition. Well, I agree with you. I forget every time! So, I called my youngest son…the one who doesn’t chew gum! And, being that he is the creator of this blog…and actually the only one who really understands how it works, I explained my concerns to him. “Not to worry, Mom,” he said, “I’ll fix it tonight!” Isn’t that the best? So hopefully tomorrow when you stop by for a visit, the box on top will be the box on bottom. Thanks Ian! I’ll make you a chicken pot pie when you come home next!
There was a time, when Alex first became ill, that we went from Dr. to Dr. looking for answers. Many times it ws a family affair…we would try to combine it with some fun things for all the boys to do.
Once we went to the University of Michigan for several days of testing. Donald, who at that time served on the local school board, also had a convention to attend about that time. So, we combined the two. The second trip was to Amarillo, Texas, and we knew the boys would love that.
Of course, it was quite a distance from this deep South town, so we decided we would fly. Bought tickets, packed bags, headed to the airport, and boarded the plane…all 5 of us. We were ready for answers and then a little adventure.
The only plane that flies out of here is the small commuter jets. They connect us to Atlanta. But, at this time they still had the propeller planes. This was Alex and Ian’s first flight, so they were really bouncing off the wall! We got them seated and buckled up. Adam had found a seat away from us because he was too cool to be seen with his parents and little brothers. All was ready…TAKE OFF!
We watched their faces and it was a mixture of excitement and terror. But, as they saw that no one was up in the aisles running and screaming…they settled down.
About 10 minutes into the flight, my ears started popping. You know the air pressure is not as good on those little planes. I offered Don a piece of gum and then leaned over the seats in front of us and offered the boys some. They declined. As we continue climbing…my ears were really stopping up bad. I was worried that the boys were uncomfortable, too. So, I leaned up over the seat again and said to them, “Boys, are you sure you don’t want some gum for your ears? It really helps.” My dear youngest son then proceeded to turn around in his seat, look me square in the eyes, and said, “Mom…if you think I’m going to put that gum in my ears…you are badly mistaken!”
I sat down…buckled my seat belt…told Don what had just happened. He and I laughed all the way to Atlanta!
Oh, how much I loved this show! For 6 years, I have watched and wondered and tried to figure out what was actually happening! Sometimes, I would never get it…until Alex explained it or I read it on a message board. And, tonight was the final show.
Actually, the very essence of the show is what made it so hard to understand. Nothing was ever what it seemed to be…and sometimes even people were not who they looked to be. Each character had a storyline on the island, and existed in an alternate reality also. And, each character was was so multi dimensional, it was hard to ever feel like you had really gotten a handle on them.
The final show was very sad, but uplifting, also. And, when it was over, I still had questions. I’m hoping that someone puts out a book that explains all the subtle nuances that you really didn’t notice at the time…only later as you were thinking it over.
Farewell, Lost. I enjoyed you immensely. Thanks for keeping my brain active at least once a week during the last 6 years! Thinking back over it should keep it active for at least another 3 or 4.
This new stuff is hard! I’m beginning to think my brain is older than I thought it was! But, I’ll keep on plugging!
You had questions…Ian has answers…
No. My followers do not come over to the new site with me. But, to tell you the truth, that has never mattered to me, anyway. I didn’t even have it on my blog. Now I was, and am, happy to know you good folks are following me, and sincerely hope you continue to do so even though I have defected to the wordpress side.
If you wish to continue to recieve Gatherings in a ‘feed’….look on the right side….last cute little funky box…and click where it reads ‘Entries RSS’…and follow how it says to do it.
I will not be posting at Gatherings 1….but I plan to leave it up indefinitely. All new posts will be on Gatherings 2. Please let me know if there is something not working right.
Welcome, friends, to my new home. Ian has worked hard to get this blog ready for me to use. Once I was OK with the template, then he had to move all the doo-dahs over. As well as all the posts. I start twitching just thinking about doing all of that.
There is much to learn to become ‘at ease’ with this system. I liken computer technology and blogging system details to ‘a+b=c’…….forever a mystery! So, if you notice something wrong, please tell me, and if you have any trouble commenting, please let me know. I will be leaving my original blog open for comments for a while.
Hang with me, friends, as I try not to embarrass myself too bad!
